Lloyd Schwartz, in the Boston Phoenix rated The Discovery Ensemble's concerts among the top 10 of 2009. In his recent review..his comments re:

Stravinsky's sublime but restrained 1928 neo-classical string score, Apollo (first titled Apollon musagète — "Apollo, Leader of the Muses"), is rarely heard outside the ballet world — it's almost impossible to keep all those strings in tune. But Lewis's incandescent performance, with concertmaster Joshua Weilerstein's violin solo, was beyond perfection in its understanding of Stravinsky's melodies and interweaving variations. Everything breathed.

Just in case you or others weren't aware of it, at least the Discovery Ensemble's recent concert was reviewed, and beautifully so, by Jeremy Eichler in the Boston Globe--see http://www.boston.com/ae/music/articles/2010/01/19/discovery_ensemble_journeys_from_bach_to_stravinsky/.

It's difficult for the unpaid publisher and editors to assign volunteer reviewers. They tend to write about concerts of their choice. I agree though that BMInt should attend Discovery Concerts. We'll discuss this omission. I see that the next Discovery Ensemble concert is on April 11. That said, there are 377 concerts on our calendar through May.

Thanks for your encouragement.

I enjoy THE BOSTON MUSICAL INTELLIGENCER very much and check reviews of local classical music concerts a least 2 or 3 times per week.

Unfortunately I've never seen a review of THE DISCOVERY ENSEMBLE. This exciting young chamber orchestra and its brilliant 25 year old conductor, Courtney Lewis, has given some of the most thrilling performances I've attended in my 50 plus years of frequent concert attendence.

I think the omission of reviewing these concerts on the part of your organization is difficult to understand especially when musical groups who possess far less talent are covered in great detail.
